Gas Plumbing in Auckland

Gasfitting is restricted work: it must be carried out or supervised by a gasfitter licensed by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. Certifying gasfitters can issue the Gas Safety Certificate that most new or altered installations require. Licences are checkable on the PGDB public register.

It is the certifying gasfitter's record that the installation meets the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations. New installations and most alterations require one, and it is the document your insurer or a future buyer will ask for. Confirm in writing that the certificate is included before work starts.

Do not use switches, phones or anything that could spark indoors. Turn the supply off at the bottle or meter if you can reach it safely, open windows, get everyone outside and call your gas supplier's emergency line. Book a gasfitter once the immediate hazard is dealt with, not before.
