Licensed plumber — by the hour

$135 an hour incl. GSTBook 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hoursAuckland-wide

Book a PGDB-licensed plumber for a block of time and stack the small jobs into one visit — a dripping mixer, a running toilet, a slow gully trap, a washing-machine hose, the shower rose nobody has looked at in years.

One visit, one call-out, one price you can see before you book. The block is the estimate — if the work needs longer, your plumber proposes the extra time and nothing more is charged until you approve it.

From $135 for 1 hour $139.51 in total with the $3.92 payment-protection fee and $0.59 GST on it. Every block is priced the same way, and you see the figure before you book.

SafeHold

Nothing is charged when you book. Once a Serproz Verified pro accepts, you fund the job into SafeHold — and it's released only when you approve the work.

How long do you need?

Some plumbing jobs are too small to price on their own and too fiddly to describe. Book a licensed plumber for a block of time instead, and work through the list while they're there.

SafeHold

Nothing is charged when you book. Once a Serproz Verified pro accepts, the block you chose is funded into SafeHold — and released only when you approve the work.

You fund the estimate. Extra time needs your approval before it's charged.

The block you book is the amount that goes into SafeHold — and once it's funded, nobody can increase it. If the work needs longer, your pro proposes the extra time, you see exactly what it costs, and it's only charged once you approve it.

  1. You fund the block

The estimate you chose goes into SafeHold. It is locked at that amount — not a deposit, not a pre-authorisation.

  2. Your pro proposes the extra time

Running over? They send a change order that says how much longer and what it costs. Nothing moves yet.

  3. You approve, then fund it

Approving adds a second milestone for the extra time. Decline it and the original block stands.

One pro, one call-out — stack the small jobs

One plumber, one call-out. Write the list on the fridge and get through it in a single visit instead of paying to get someone out three times.

What to book as a quoted job instead

Time-based booking suits small, well-defined work. These jobs are better posted as a quoted job, where verified pros price the whole scope and you release payment milestone by milestone:

  • Hot water cylinder replacementa day's work with a cylinder, valves and a certificate — priced as a quoted job
  • Gasfitting of any kindgas work is separately licensed and must be certified afterwards
  • Drain unblocking that needs a machine, jetter or cameraspecialist gear and an unknown cause — book the fixed-price drain service or post the job
  • Bathroom or kitchen re-pipes and renovation rough-insstaged work that belongs on milestones, so you release payment stage by stage
  • Anything behind a wall, under a floor or needing consentthe scope isn't knowable until it's open, so it should be quoted, not clocked

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the job takes longer than the block I booked?

Your plumber proposes the extra time as a change order and you approve it before any more is charged. The block you funded can't be increased on its own — once money is held it's fixed — so extra time always means a new amount you agreed to.

What if we finish early?

The block is the amount you booked and funded, so short jobs are better suited to a fixed-price service. If the whole visit is cancelled before it starts, the held funds are refunded in full.

Does the hourly rate include the call-out?

Yes — travel within Auckland is included in the rate, which is why stacking several small jobs into one block works out better than booking them separately.

Are parts included?

Standard consumables — washers, seals, tape, silicone — are included. Tapware, cylinders, cartridges and anything you've chosen yourself are supplied by you, or quoted separately by the plumber.

Is the plumber licensed?

Only pros whose PGDB licence has been checked against the register can accept a booking on Serproz. Sanitary plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are restricted work under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006.
